You’re Not “Just a Creator”. You’re Running a Business.
Dec 29, 2025There is a sentence I hear constantly from small business owners, creators, and service providers:
"It's just another thing I don't want to have to worry about."
They're usually talking about a website.
Or systems.
Or anything that feels remotely technical.
And on the surface, I get it. Most people didn't start a business because they wanted to manage platforms, integrations, or infrastructure. They started because they had a skill, an idea, or a service they were good at.
But here's the uncomfortable truth:
If you are selling something, booking clients, building an audience, or generating income online, you are not "just a creator" anymore. You are operating a business - whether you treat it like one or not.
And businesses that don't take ownership of their foundations eventually lose control of them.
Social Media Is Not a Business Asset
(and no.... Link in Bio is not business model)
Many businesses today operate almost entirely from Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. Their bookings, enquiries, links, offers, and income are all routed through platforms they don't own.
This feels easy. Until it isn't.
- Algorithms change.
- Accounts get restricted.
- Features disappear.
- Platforms pivot.
And when that happens, businesses without a central digital asset scramble.
A significant portion of small businesses still lack a dedicated website or central online presence, relying instead on social platforms and third-party marketplaces to operate. The most common reasons are cost, time, and perceived complexity.
In other words - "I didn't want to deal with it."
But avoiding infrastructure doesn't remove the need for it. It just delays the consequences.
A Website Is Not About Looking Fancy
There is a persistent myth that websites are about branding, aesthetics, or "looking professional".
That's outdated thinking.
A modern website is not a brochure.
It is not a vanity asset.
It is not optional.
A website is:
- Your digital headquarters
- Your booking and conversion engine
- Your owned asset, independent of algorithms
- The foundation for automation, scale, and long-term growth
If you want people to take your business seriously, Google needs to be able to take it seriously first.
"All-in-One" Platforms Exist for a Reason
One of the biggest reasons people avoid websites and systems is the belief that it requires managing dozens of disconnected tools.
That used to be true.
Today, platforms exist that combine website hosting, email marketing, payments, digital products, booking flows, and community features into a single ecosystem. The reason these platforms are growing is not hype - it's efficiency.
When systems are fragmented, businesses burn time, leak revenue, and create unnecessary complexity. When systems are integrated, things become simpler, not harder.
Ironically, the people who say "I don't want to worry about that" often end up worrying more - because nothing talks to anything else.
Creators Are Becoming Founder-Led Brands
We are watching a shift happen in real time.
Creators are no longer just posting content.
Coaches are no longer just selling sessions.
Service providers are no longer just trading hours.
They are becoming founder-led brands.
That means:
- Owned platforms
- Clear offers
- Automated systems
- Scalable infrastructure
- Digital assets that work even when they're offline
The people who recognise this early build leverage.
The people who ignore it stay dependent on platforms they don't control.
This Isn't About Doing More. It's About Doing It Properly.
This is not a call to add more to your plate.
It's a call to stop building on rented land.
You don't need to do everything at once.
But you do need a foundation.
At minimum, every serious business should have:
- A central website or digital hub
- A clear booking or enquiry path
- Ownership over their audience and offers
- Systems that reduce manual effort, not increase it
Because at some point, the question stops being "Do I want to worry about this?"
And becomes:
"Why didn't I do this sooner?"
